You can sit any Cambridge IELTS Listening paper here free. Forty questions in about 30 minutes, four parts, each recording played once — and it is marked against the book's own answer key the moment you hand in. 30 correct out of 40 is an indicative band 7. The same test counts for Academic and General Training; there is no separate Listening paper for the two.

What the Listening test asks of you

Parts 1 and 2 — everyday situations

A conversation about practical arrangements, then a monologue such as a talk about a place. Mostly form-filling and note completion, where spelling and number format carry real marks.

Parts 3 and 4 — education and training

A discussion between students and then an academic lecture. More multiple choice and matching, and the vocabulary is further from everyday speech.

Each recording is played once

On paper you get 10 minutes afterwards to copy answers onto the answer sheet. On the computer-delivered test you do not: you type into the answer box as you go, which is the version practised here.

What a Listening score is worth

Forty questions, one mark each, converted to a band. IELTS publishes four indicative points and describes them as indicative, because the marks needed vary slightly between versions: 30 correct out of 40 is an indicative band 7. Any site showing you all forty rows invented the other thirty-six.
