What the tasks are
- Part 1
- Familiar questions about yourself — work, study, home, hobbies. 4 to 5 minutes.
- Part 2
- The long turn. A cue card, one minute to prepare, then speak for up to two minutes.
- Part 3
- A discussion of the abstract issues behind the Part 2 topic. No preparation. 4 to 5 minutes.
- Marked on
- Fluency and Coherence, Lexical Resource, Grammatical Range and Accuracy, Pronunciation — four criteria of equal weight.
There is no question-by-question table for this paper, and nothing is missing: Writing and Speaking are not marked against an answer key at all. They are scored on four published criteria — the same four the examiner uses — so what is worth knowing beforehand is the shape of the tasks, which IELTS publishes and which is the same in every book.
