The short answer: IELTS on computer costs BDT 31,100 in Bangladesh, at British Council and at IDP alike. That covers both Academic and General Training. I checked IDP's published fees page and walked British Council's booking system through to the price on 14 October 2026.
The longer answer is that the fee is only the first cost, and it moves. Below is every charge you are likely to meet, what we could and could not confirm, and the one habit that saves more money than any of them.
IELTS exam fee in Bangladesh 2026, test by test
These are IDP Bangladesh's published fees, copied from their page on 14 October 2026. British Council matches the first two.
| Test | Fee |
|---|---|
| IELTS on computer (Academic or General Training) | BDT 31,100 |
| IELTS for UKVI | BDT 34,850 |
| IELTS Life Skills (A1 or B1) | BDT 24,750 |
| One Skill Retake | BDT 18,600 |
| IELTS for UKVI One Skill Retake | BDT 20,900 |
Paper-based IELTS is no longer offered here, so "IELTS on computer" is simply what IELTS means in Bangladesh now. If you prepared on paper, it is worth reading what changes with the move to computer before you book.
What about the British Council fee?
The same BDT 31,100 — and finding that out meant disagreeing with their own website.
British Council Bangladesh's "dates, fees and locations" page listed IELTS Academic on computer at BDT 29,600 on 14 October 2026. Their booking system, three clicks further on, charged BDT 31,100 for the same test in Dhaka. I checked three dates across two venues and every one of them said 31,100.
So on the test itself the two providers are now level. Where they differ is everything you buy afterwards.
| Charge | British Council | IDP |
|---|---|---|
| IELTS on computer (Academic or General Training) | BDT 31,100 | BDT 31,100 |
| IELTS for UKVI | BDT 34,850 | BDT 34,850 |
| One Skill Retake | BDT 19,600 | BDT 18,600 |
| One Skill Retake, UKVI | BDT 22,000 | BDT 20,900 |
| Enquiry on Results (re-mark) | BDT 12,500 | BDT 10,500 |
IDP is cheaper on both of the things you buy when the first attempt went wrong: BDT 1,000 less on a One Skill Retake, BDT 2,000 less on a re-mark. Both refund the re-mark fee if a score goes up.
That is not much of a reason to pick one before you sit. It is a good reason to know which one you sat with when something needs fixing.
And the practical rule stands, with a sharper edge than before: the price in the booking portal just before you pay is the real one. British Council's own fee page is the proof. It was out by BDT 1,500 on the day I wrote this.
Why the fee keeps going up
If an older cousin told you IELTS cost eighteen thousand, they were not wrong. They were just early.
British Council's own tariff documents put the IELTS fee at BDT 18,750 for the 2022–23 financial year and BDT 22,500 for 2023–24. IDP's computer fee today is BDT 31,100, about two-thirds more than in 2022.
Nothing about the test got longer. The fee is set against the US dollar, and the taka lost value against it over that stretch. It is also why you will still find pages quoting figures like BDT 24,950. Prices move and old pages stay where they are. Check the date on any fee you read.
The costs that are not the test fee
Most people budget for the test and nothing else. These are the charges that catch them.
Changing your date
Moving IELTS on computer to another date costs BDT 3,000 with IDP. Cancelling costs the same BDT 3,000, and both have deadlines before your test day. For UKVI the charge is BDT 5,150.
If your preparation is shaky, it is cheaper to book a realistic date once than to book an optimistic one and pay to move it.
Asking for a re-mark
An Enquiry on Results costs BDT 10,500 at IDP and BDT 12,500 at British Council, and you get it back if your band goes up. You have six weeks from the test date to ask, and the result can come back the same day or take up to three weeks. It makes sense when one skill is half a band short and you believe the marking, not your performance, was the problem. Writing and Speaking are the usual candidates.
Retaking one skill
One Skill Retake costs BDT 18,600 at IDP and BDT 19,600 at British Council, and lets you resit a single section within 60 days of your original computer test. You get one retake per original test, and the new Test Report Form carries your other three scores unchanged. Whether it is worth it depends on how far off you are and what your deadline is. I wrote a separate piece on when One Skill Retake is worth buying, including how to line it up with a re-mark so you do not run out of time.
Sending your score to more places
Your result goes to a set number of organisations for free. After that, IDP lists BDT 2,400 for each additional Test Report Form. If you are applying to eight universities, count this in.
Getting there
Test centres are in the larger cities. If your nearest one is a bus ride away, add the fare and possibly a night's stay, because a 9 a.m. start after an overnight journey is not the morning you want.
How to pay
IDP Bangladesh lists online payment, offline payment and cash payment. Book through the official IDP or British Council website, or through a registration centre either of them names. If someone offers you a "discounted" IELTS seat through a WhatsApp group, walk away. The fee is fixed by the provider, and a genuine booking always ends with a confirmation from them, not from a middleman.
How much IELTS really costs, all in
Here is a realistic picture for one person taking IELTS on computer in Dhaka:
| Item | Cost |
|---|---|
| Test fee | BDT 31,100 |
| One date change (if needed) | BDT 3,000 |
| Four extra university score reports | BDT 9,600 |
| Likely total | BDT 31,100 to 43,700 |
And if you miss your band by half in one skill, add either BDT 10,500 for a re-mark or BDT 18,600 for a retake.
That last line is the expensive one, and it is the one you have the most control over.
The cheapest way to protect BDT 31,100
The candidates I see waste money in one predictable way. They book the test to create a deadline, then discover in the exam hall that they have never sat all four skills back to back, on a screen, against a clock.
A full mock under real conditions costs you nothing but three hours, and it tells you whether you are paying BDT 31,100 for a band 7 or for a lesson. If your mock lands well short, you have learned that for free rather than for the price of a retake. Centres in Dhaka do charge for mocks, and what they charge against what an online mock costs is worth knowing before you book one.
Two other costs are decided before you pay anything: which of the two tests you actually need, because sitting the wrong one means paying twice, and whether One Skill Retake applies to you if a single skill is what went wrong.
If you are not sure how close you are, these five checks are a better guide than how you feel about it.
A note on these numbers
Every figure here was read on 14 October 2026 from the provider that charges it, and nowhere else.
IDP's fees, cancellation charges, transfer charges and Enquiry on Results fee come from IDP Bangladesh's own fees page. British Council's BDT 31,100 comes from their booking system, not their fees page, because the two disagreed that day — their fees page said 29,600. The One Skill Retake figures of BDT 19,600 and 22,000 come from British Council's One Skill Retake page, and the BDT 12,500 re-mark fee from their results page.
Where a number is not here, it is because I could not confirm it from the provider. I would rather leave a gap than print a figure somebody budgets against.
Fees move with the exchange rate, sometimes more than once a year. If you are reading this months later the structure will still hold, but check the numbers — and check them in the booking portal, not on a fees page.
